Description
Varicose veins are veins that have become enlarged and twisted. Your vein have “one-way” valves to prevent the blood from flowing back down your limb. When these valves no longer work properly, the veins become enlarged and the vein wall becomes weakened and expands. Varicose veins are common in the superficial veins of the legs (for example the greater and lesser saphenous veins), which are subject to high pressure when standing. This shows through the outer skin of the leg as a twisted, lumpy line. Please note that besides cosmetic problems, varicose veins can be painful, especially when standing or walking.
There are several possible treatments for varicose veins. Newer surgical therapies such as sclerotherapy (a chemical injections to shrink the veins), endovenous laser therapy (Varicose Veins Laser Treatment) and miniphlebectomy are less invasive and are replacing the traditional surgical approach. The treatment depends on the type of the veins. MTA Poland partner surgeon usually combines few treatment methods which are the most effective in closing the vein.
When a leg vein is completely removed, it is impossible for it to return, while with traditional vein stripping, there is a greater chance of new veins growing. Even though the original vein is gone, new ones may recur which will require future treatment. With laser therapy, new veins are unlikely to grow.
