Description
The adjustable gastric banding system is designed to reduce food consumption and thus induce loss of weight. During Laparoscopic surgery, a band is placed around the upper part of the stomach, creating a small pouch that can hold only a small amount of food. The system helps the patient to eat less by limiting the amount of food that can be eaten at one time and increasing the time it takes for food to be digested. After band implantation the hallow band can be inflated or deflated which will make the opening smaller or wider depending on the patient’s needs. The Laparoscopic Gastric Band is recommended to patients for whom diets and non-surgical obesity treatment methods didn’t bring expected results. The minimum BMI (Body Mass Index) is 40.
